FIRST.

  1. Read the Video101 lesson on shots: http://video101course.com/shots.html
  2. Take Part I of the Shots Quiz.
  3.  Read the sheet about types of shots. 
  4. Be sure to click the link for each shot to read more.
  5. Take Part Two of the Shots Quiz.

When all of the above is completed, bring the sheet to me for grading. You must get a perfect score on both to continue.

Project 1.

You will create your name badges for going out on location to shoot.

  1. Open MS Word by clicking the shortcut on the desktop.
  2. Click Insert — Picture.
  3. Go to Computer — S: (shared) — lams — PEG –badgesq3.
  4. Click the little dropdown arrow in the upper right and choose View content”  and find your  pictures, and insert them into the document.
  5. Add a centered caption to each picture:

Jimmy S. —  Video Production – Q3-2020

  1. You may jazz it up or decorate in any way you want.

Be sure you print both badges on one sheet of paper!

  1. Each photo (with caption) should be maximum 4″ wide .
  2. Print the page, and use the paper cutter or scissors to trim to size.
  3. Insert into holder, add string, and hang on bulletin board.

Any time you leave the room, you must be wearing your badge.

Project 2

  1. There is a FlipCam sticking out of your computer. Note the number. When the period is over, please return the camera to the top drawer in the file cabinet. Use this same Flip for the rest of the project.
  2. Plan and shoot a video using one of the following choices:
  1. What to do when you are bored.
  2. A day in the life.
  3. This is us.
  4. Dude, just be nice.
  5. How to…

Requirements:

  • Must include titles.
  • Must include transitions.
  • Must include at least one other special effect. (Slow/Fast Motion, backwards, etc.)
  • Must use at least 5 of the types of shots.
  • Most shots should be MIDSHOT OR CLOSER!
  • There should be at least one UNUSUAL/WEIRD shot.
  • Please include a sound track/instrumental music.
  • May include a voice-over.
  • Should be approximately 45-60 seconds.
  • FUN(NY)!
  • Use the storyboard form to plan your video.

Go to the Procedures Page for instructions on starting a new project in Adobe, and for transferring your footage to the computer for editing. Be sure to follow the FlipCam instructions.

Project 3.

You will create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) comic for one of the sections of our student handbook. It will eventually serve as the storyboard for your first PSA video. Try to remember what you have learned about the various types of shots.

First choose a topic for your PSA comic:

  11. What to do when you are absent/Attendance/Tardy Policy (p5) –
  12. Library (p9) –
  13. No Bullying (p10-11) –
  14. Behavior Expectations (p11) –

Go to My Account and Join the class called Video Production Q1-2017.

The Password is: cheese.

Each pair of partners will create one comic. Remember that you will eventually be turning this into a video. Use lots of different angles and “shots.”

Here is an example.

Please keep dialogue and talking heads to a minimum.

Project 4.  

Shoot and edit a 30-60 second video. It should be a Public Service Announcement (PSA) about one of the rules from our school handbook. Use your StoryBoardThat as a storyboard/script.

What we’re looking for:

  • Use a script. (Or  use the storyboard form.)
  • Titles that help to emphasize the message.
  • At least  7- different types of shots
  • Emphasis of the message and the reason behind the rule.
  • About 30-60 seconds.
  • Voice-over.
  • Music and sound effects.
  • Keep dialogue to a minimum.
  • Special effects such as fast/slow motion, green screen, animated titles, etc

(Q3-2018) Project 5. “Tell a story.”

(Q3-2018) Project 6. Subject Video.

Make a 1-3 minute video related to a school subject/concept.

Examples include…

English: Author bio, book review or advertisement, famous character interview…

Math: Math concept video, how to do a certain operation or solve a problem…

Science: Evolution, photosynthesis, dinosaurs, mousetrap car, Nobel prize…

Shop: How to spot weld, how to use the shear, etc…

Home ec: cooking videos, sewing a locker pocket, etc…

History: battles, bios, etc…

Your video should have a good variety of shots, a narrator of some kind, and clock in at 3 minutes or less.

Please get your subject/topic approved before proceeding.
